Western Australia’s oldest wine region has held their annual wine show, taking place at Mandoon Estate from Tuesday, August 11 to Friday, August 14.
This show was the 38th iteration of the awards, making the Swan Valley Wine Show one of the longest continually operating wine shows in the country. Winemakers are able to use the show as an opportunity to benchmark their wines against others from the region, and ensure that they strive for excellence in their winemaking practice.
This year’s festivities saw a record number of wines entered at 282, with 211 medals across gold, silver and bronze categories awarded, reflecting the high standard of wines submitted.
Mandoon Estate took home six trophies, including Best Non Greater Perth Zone (GPZ) Wine (2025 Chardonnay), Best Single Dry Red Varietal or Dry Red Blend (2025 Durif), Best Grenache (2023 Old Vine Grenache), Best Shiraz (2024 Old Vine Shiraz), Most Successful Producer and the Liquor Barons trophy for the Best Regional Wine of Show.
Talijancich Wines was awarded the City of Swan Trophy, granted to the exhibitor whose five or more entries gained the highest average score. The winemakers added this award to their haul for 2026, which includes Best Swan Valley Old Wine Wine (1981 Solero Liqueur Shiraz NV), Best Fortified Wine of Show and and Best WA Fortified Wine (2007 Pedro Ximenes Liqueur).
The Spirit of the Swan Award is presented every second year to winemakers that demonstrate an outstanding achievement and contribute to the promotion and sales of Swan Valley wine, tourism and viticulture. Upper Reach Winery’s Derek Pearse and Laura Rowe took home the award this year, having given 30+ years to the region in creating one of the Swan Valley’s leading boutique wineries.
The Swan Valley region is set to continue to build on the tradition of fine wine making first established in 1834, with 72% of wines receiving a medal this year, owing to the excellence of the entries.
