Perth is coming alive with Christmas lights, from the CBD to the suburbs, single-house spectaculars to cul-de-sacs and walking trails that showcase the best of the best light displays.

If you’re lost on where to start, we’ve put together some awesome spots to ignite your festive spirit, just in time to check them out before the big day.

Subiaco Twilight Trail

If you’re after a festive photo-op, this trail is perfect for you – eight large-scale installations can be found throughout Subiaco’s town centre, conveniently beginning right outside Subiaco Train Station with a giant starlit tree.

Follow the trail down Seddon Street and Forrest Walk, all the way through to the corner of Onslow Road & Excelsior Street. A map is available online to guide you through to each installation to capture Christmas memories.

Grab an ice-cream on the way down, and be sure to try your hand at the Twinkling Treasure Hunt, an augmented reality experience that bring each installation to life through QR codes.

Rio Tinto Christmas Lights Trail

You’ve probably seen this one all over your feed by now, but if you’ve not been past any of the 22 installations yet, you’ve got until the 28th of December to do so!

If you’re short on time, try out the Merry Mile – this altered route cuts the whole 3.5km trail in half.

Brookfield Place

If you’re still looking for more lights in the city after the Rio Tinto trail, why not head to Brookfield Place to fuel up? It is, after all, their sweetest time of the year.

Limited edition menu items take over their bars and restaurants as part of their Sweetest Time of the Year promotion, with specials like a Cherry & Limoncello Tiramisu at Print Hall and festive cocktails at Bobeche and Bar Lafayette.

But we’re after the lights, of course – wander through a gingerbread house, lined with Christmas trees and candy canes with fairy lights overhead. No one will judge if you head in for a drink after!

Wanneroo Botanic Gardens

Back again for another year, the magic of Christmas returns at Wanneroo Botanic Gardens.

Over five acres of gardens are lit up with over 100,000 lights to explore, from now until early January.

Photo-ops aren’t all, as you can play a round of Glow Golf right amongst the light displays. 36 holes of mini-golf with a sightseeing pass included. It gets busy around this time of year, so make a booking so you don’t miss out!

Alexander Heights

This suburb has some awesome spots to check out, with whole-street trails and elaborate house decorations to leave you wondering how they did it.

La Salle Road is home to ‘The Heights Lights,’ featured on Channel 7 last year and coming back even stronger. It’s perfect for families with loads of opportunity to interact with the display. Music, bubbles, a train, a sleigh and Christmas hats to try on make these lights worth more than a drive-by.

Meanwhile, Azelia Street is home to a Gingerbread Lane Light Trail, with inflatables, walk-through light tunnel, and a letterbox to post letters to Santa. On Lancer Way, you’ll find Super Mario Solar World, an award-winning, 100% solar display, featuring QR codes that trigger authentic Mario sound effects. Nostalgia meets Christmas, and you’ll have to see it to believe it.

Atwell

A suburb for the south-siders that is included on most yearly trails, for good reason!

You’ll find massive lights displays throughout the suburb, with houses on Dulcet Link, Kennack Vista, Aromatic Crescent and Kanji Loop showing out each year.

Kennack Vista’s display has been running for 26 years, featuring a walkway under twinkling trees, automated lights synced to Christmas music and a snow machine!
